frisco
world cup 2, aka smc#2, aka the Frisco Round-up, took place tonight. i was wondering how the legs would respond after a tough race Sunday, long ez ride Monday with Alina, and then the day off on Tuesday. Normally I prefer to take a rest day 2 days before the race, but this time I took off the day before. I think I will do this again next race, b/c I felt very very good today. 2nd place and under a minute back from Luke, but I had a stupid mistake which cost me about a minute. on one of the fast big-ring downhill stretches I clipped a pedal and went sailing over the handle bars, aka OTB, aka ass over tea kettle. slightly dazed, and definitely a little confused, I got back up a little slowly, but was soon back on the bike. as I clipped into my used-to-be-new egg beaters, I found out that my right pedal whacking bent the spindle pretty good. oh well, just get on the stick and try to get back in the race. as I pedaled a few strokes, I saw Kevin Soiler and Taylor Shelden flying by me in the opposite direction. what? i guess the crash disoriented me temporarily, and I was riding the wrong direction for a few seconds. anyways, I didn't see anyone else pass me except for Bernie. I took off after him, and soon found myself again feeling good and closing fast to close out the 2nd lap. although I was off the nice pace of Todd, CBall and Luke (Thane & Tim G. were off the front), I was happy to feel strong still, even while riding on my own. I caught up to Bernie on the last lap on the slog up Crown Road, and then passed him on the rolly descents and punchy climbs back to the finish. 2nd place isn't 1st, but I was more than pleased to feel so strong. I am going to try a similar type of training week, and we'll see what happens next.
