Swift Skedaddle
Saturday fun
I skied from the house over Gold Run to the nordic center on Saturday morning. I had always wanted to ski down Slalom and Upper and Middle Flumes, to Tom's Baby, to hook into the Peabody TH by the nordic center and golf course. A beautiful morning, with some amazing views along the climb up Gold Run Rd.
It feels great to climb again...
Top of summit estates. Sunny and mid 40s with little wind. No traffic and ipod rockin' = perfect.

Valentine's Day wknd
I had such a great time this past wknd. Helen shaved a minute off her time and was the 3rd fastest woman at the Red Hot 50K trail running race out in Moab. Threatening forecasts actually yielded nice weather. Saturday early am it snowed for about 5 minute, then it cleared and was sunny the rest of the wknd. We couldn't have been more lucky with the weather. And I was able to get out and ride 2 classics on the mtb, Amasa Back and Slickrock. I would rather be no place else than Moab in Jan or Feb. Hard to believe this desert town is only 4hrs from Breck, yet retains nice weather and almost always has dry trails. Alina got to check out the parks and playgrounds, and had some good time riding her bike. On the way out of town, we stopped off at the Sovereign Trail for Helen to do a short run to stretch her legs. Alina and I watched Dora's Pirate Adventure, then we took her bike out for some Moab desert riding in the parking lot.

happy valentine's day
as tradition has it, we're out in Moab for the Red Hot 50K. Helen's been out on the desert trails for almost 2 hours now. She's probably almost halfway done. It's in the low 40s, but luckily dry everywhere. We had some flurries early this morning, but it only lasted about 15min, and never accumulated. Breezy and chilly is no problem, we're just happy to have dry ground. Alina and I went to wash the car, then had some brkfst and now it's Handy Manny.

dry still, but more storms coming in tomorrow and Saturday
Moab has escaped the last few storms. The Red Hot 50K race director said they haven't had any rain (he didn't even mention snow) in 2 weeks. Trails are dry now. But another system is moving in tomorrow, with another pulse on Saturday. I hope they are as elusive as the others.

Moab
The forecast doesn't look good. Then again, they said it would be snowing there the last couple of days, and this webcam is showing a dry desert in Moab by the Colorado River. if we're very lucky, the desert will be mostly dry. even if damp, not being covered in snow would be a victory. but with storms coming through every 2-3 days, it's certainly not looking like we'll see sunshine and temps in the mid 50s like it has been the last couple of years. I am excited for Helen's race. She has been training hard, and after the New Year she finally kicked the cold she had had for over a month (after her last race in SF). Alina and I are excited for dry ground and to be able to ride our bikes.

Another mtb ride
8hrs after the last one. I'm on Pick 'n Sledge, about 1,500' above Denver. Nice morning.
