my window's open

It is 48 and calm sunshine in Breck, a gorgeous day. Hopefully we have several more like this in store this spring. I actually am a bit too warm in my office so I have the window cracked about 2'. Ahh, spring has sprung. well for today it has. Probably 20 degrees, windy and snowy on Sunday. Looking forward to my first bike ride around town tomorrow.

writing

i haven't done much writing lately. the pics are so quick and easy to upload from the phone or Picasa, that it has put old-fashioned written posts on the back burner. that is unfortunate. A couple nights ago Alina and I were outside on the swing, it was a warmish 30 degrees around 6p. we were talking about how much snow was in our yard. I told her some piles were taller than her, almost as tall as I. She then said out of the blue, "I'm getting bigger." Cool moment. Then last night she slept in our bed and Helen was going to turn off the light to go to sleep. Alina then said it was dark and that she couldn't see. She told Helen she wanted to hold her hand, so they apparently fell asleep holding hands! Alina is a little afraid of the dark, but probably no more than other kids her age.

We are getting a nice stretch of warm sunny weather finally. Upper 30s today and 40 tomorrow. Same high pressure ridge will allow 65 in Moab and a record high of 70 in Denver tomorrow! I am going to put the rear fender on the cross machine and head out tomorrow afternoon for a little tour de breck.

back in the groove

okay I had my dirt and sun fix in Moab last wknd. Now I want more, but it will have to wait, hopefully only a couple more weeks. At least the below zero windy weather is gone for now. In the 30s the past few days, so the snow is melting nicely. Though we have at last 2 more months of snowy weather, it is refreshing to know the temps are slowly climbing and soon I'll be able to train on dry roads around town. I need to find a front fender for the cross bike.

Red Hot 50K results

Helen had a great race. 17min faster than last year, and this one she raced on the tail side of the crud she's been dealing with now for 3 weeks. Only 9 minutes behind Darcy is also quite an accomplishment. 50km of desert running on jeep roads, sand, slickrock and everything in between. 4,500' of elevation gain and 3,848' of elevation loss. Ouch.

Red Hot 50K

Helen coming through after a measly 50K and over 5hrs of running the beautiful winter desert out in Moab. And looking east across 191 from Gemini Bridges parking lot towards Arches, at about 7:45a.

Got dirt?

We had a great time in Moab. Alina said "I like dirt." She may need to wait a while to get her dirt fix here at home.

Moab

snowing lightly there now. I hope it dries out quickly tomorrow. If not, Helen might be snowshoeing in the desert! I think Slickrock and Amasa will be fine after almost 2 days of sun Fri and Sat. But Sovereign might be too wet/muddy. We'll see. Keep your fingers crossed!
